In this video, we're going to discuss the item that is looked at during accessibility, the use of have to do with color and with contrast that I think most of us agree that, color can make things more interesting or more visually appealing. But we need to be careful of using color to think about what is the easiest to read. Black text on a white background is the easiest to read Because, there is a good contrast. And also think about when you're using color that if you have a students who are color blind, they are not going to be able to see the color. So if you want to emphasis a word that it’s alright to use color. But you need to use something else, some other visual besides just color to show emphasis. And again you always need to be in the ‘author mode’ to make any changes in eCollege. Let’s say I want to emphasize the word read, because I want to make sure that they know that they need to look at the lecture notes. So I can select the word I can use color to emphasize a word. But then the student who is color blind isn't going to see that. So to make it obvious to the student you cannot see the color is also make word bold. Or make it italic or underline it. Something that will draw the student's attention to the word other than having to just use the color. And then again make sure you always click ‘save changes’. And now you can see that we're using color, but we're also using bold so the student that is color blind will at least see the word read and in the bold text. And then another thing we need to talk about is the contrast between the text and the background. And there's some colors that contrast is pretty good, some colors not so much. Because you can see with the yellow font on the white background that's just almost impossible for anybody to read. And so I would recommend using color, different color sparingly because the main thing of these online courses is that they are readable, and we don’t want to cause anymore issues for students that necessary.
